Relax Therapy - Part 3; How to enjoy essential oil

How to enjoy essential oil
Aromatic bath: the fragrance of essential oils is diffused into the air and the aromatic component is inhaled through the nose. The fragrance is diffused into the air by steam that has been warmed using an aroma pot or aroma warmer in which the essential oil and water or hot water has been placed. As a rough guide, 5 to 7 drops of essential oil would be sufficient for a room. There is also a method to enjoy the fragrance which has been dropped directly into a small unglazed dish. If you first timer, please do a patch test for each oil, there are instances where some might develop allergic reactions. The patch test is done by diluting base oil and the essential oils which one intend to use for aroma treatment or which would come in contact with the skin by way of aroma bath.
How To Do A Patch Test
#1 Put one drop of the essential oil you want to use to 10ml of pure oil
#2 Paint a circle about the size of a dime on the inner sides of both wrist
#3 Leave it on for 12 to 24 hours, it would be ideal to cover with adhesive bandage
#4 If there is no abnormal symptom, you can use the oil.allegric reactions differ according to the type of fragrance and manufacture. Please do a patch test for all the oils you intend to use
How To Use The Aroma Pot
Half-filled the dish on the top side with water and put a few drops of essential oil and light up the candle.
How To Use The Aroma Warmer
The lamp is the source of heat and the method of use is the same as the aroma pot.
How To Use The Small Unglazed Dish/ Coin
Drop the essential oil into the unglazed dish directly to enjoy the fragrance. The unglazed coin is an item similar to the small dish which used to soak with essential oil to enjoy the fragrance.
For House Care
Use essential oils for house care. Make some aroma alcohol and use it for cleaning purposes. Put in this order 35ml of dehydrated ethanol, 15 to 20 drops of essential oil and 65ml of purified water into a spray container and mix well. Recommended essential oils are grapefruit, geranium, lemon, tea tree and so on.
For Deodorizing
Use as air freshener in the kitchen and other places. Put 50ml of purified water and add in 20 drops of essential oil in a spray container and mix well. As an air refresher can be made by mixing essential oil and baking soda (sodium bicarbonate), about 20 drops of essential oil to 20g of baking soda. Recommended essential oils are grapefruit, lemon, eucalyptus and peppermint.

Ecoramic Pot Recipe ~ Chinese Herbal Chicken Soup

I love Chinese herbal soups in rainy period which enhances a feeling of warmth and general health. Not only nourishing, and especially great when you are feeling fatigue, this soup boosts your health. Modern Mums are very difference from the women at our mother's era. Today, a modern mum needs to juggle between career and family. We are capable but not WONDER Woman! It is just too tiring after sometime if we try to be one. During our Ah-maks’ era, their methods are those conventional way like stewing and simmering the soup over slow fire on the charcoal stove and another method like steaming to make chicken herbal soup.

But nowadays, there are many different cookers, pressure cookers or *A.I timer cookers in the market. Many of us, as busy mums at work, can’t watch fire all the time or barely half a day in kitchen to do cooking. We need at least 2 hours in kitchen to whip nutritious and healthy food for our family.

So, I started out with buying prepacked right amount of Chinese herbal mixes from NTUC Fairprices or Cold Storage, I do not need to worry on overdose. The packing is nicely packed and hygiene too. Some packing has its own mentioned functional of herbs and purposes. Choose the one you prefer to boil for your family.

1. Blanch chicken in boiling water for a 1 minutes. Drain, rinse with cold water & set aside.
2. Place blanched chicken and the rest of the ingredients in water. After coming to a boil, simmer for at 20 mins, and longer if you can.
3. Season to taste with salt. Serve with steamed white rice.

Pointers To Share
1. You may use double boil, slow cook, or use a thermal pot.
2. If you are using electrical cookers, use timer socket to assist your boiling. Save time and electricity.

Chinese Herbal Chicken Soup ç‚–鸡汤

Relax Therapy - Part 1; Essential Oils

Thank you Fan (Mummy Grace), for asking on Essential oil topics and willingly to share tips of usage on essential oil. Ok, Superbmothers done research on it via reading books and asking aromatherapist experts. Of cos, all mums can contribute by sharing via 'comment' space. (No rude, offensive and hurtful comment via 'comment' space. Thank you for co-operation).

Essential oils are highly fragrant, pure, concentrated and volatile oils which have been extracted from flowers, leaves, roots, skins of fruits, barks of trees and other plant matter. These natural fragrances are used for health and beauty since the times of ancient Greece. The aromatic component in essential oils is useful in maintaining bodily functions are refreshing the state of mind.

Generally, the varieties of essential oils can be classifies into 7 strains of fragrances. And there are 3 techniques for extracting these oils which are by using steam to extract the oil component (steam distillation technique), extraction by expression from fruits skins (cold press technique) and by using volatile medium for  extraction (solvent extraction technique). Amongst these, oils expressed by cold press technique deteriorate easily and it is important to use it up quickly. As essential oils are volatile and weak to light and heat, they are filled in green colored opaque bottles to block direct sunlight.

Once again, thank you Mummy Grace. Have a blessed Xmas 2011.

Ecoramic Pots Recipe ~ Green Bean Soup

This is an easy Chinese soup dessert that is cooling and sweet, which is suitable for the perpetual hot weather in Singapore. Green beans aka ‘mung beans’ are considered by Chinese as a ‘cooling’ food, and some believe it is a good natural alternative home remedy for acne. I just love boiling this because it is so low price, easy and tasty. Some love the look and texture of sago but this is optional. Tips: "Green bean soup is cooling, while red bean soup is 'heaty' food".
Chinese Green Bean Soup
Ingredients (Serves 4)
- 100g green beans (aka mung beans) – soaked overnight, rinsed and drained (w/o Ecoramic Pots) If you own one, you do not need to soaked overnight...
- 2 pandan (screw pine) leaves, dried ends cut, tied in a knot
- 2 litres water
- 50g rock sugar, to taste (your own sweetness)
- 3 small pieces (10g) of dried orange (tangerine) peel (optional)
- 80g canned or vacuum-packed lotus seeds or ginkgo nuts (optional)

Method
1. In Ecoramic pot, add green beans, 2 litres water, dried orange peel and pandan leaves. Bring to a boil.
2. Once water boiling, add green beans. Top up with hot water at any time if necessary.
3. To speed up cooking of green bean soup, place a porcelain spoon in the pot to cook together with the green beans.
4. Stir in rock sugar (to taste) until the sugar is dissolved. Discard orange peel slices and pandan leaves.
5. Serve warmed or chilled.
Serve warmed or chilled
