Teen's Shopping Heaven

Where do teens shop today? Yes, majority in Qoo10. Formerly known as Gmarket, it was a very confusing shopping cart at the earlier launch. I used to think that, we are the savvy mummy that shop smart in Qoo10 but i was so wrong. I was chatting with my teenager niece and nephew the other day. They told me, they and most of their peers got most of their stuffs in Qoo10 The reasons, good bargain, detail info, easy to pay and shipped right to their doorstep. It is really a shopping heaven :)

My nephew asked me to buy one Fuji Polaroid camera as a birthday gift for him, it is the "IN-Thing" in his circle now. He said he done his homework, Qoo10 has the best deal, etc...

I recalled 30 years ago, Polaroid camera is the bulky and heavy (black casing), took photograph in black and white. That's real vintage. Now, the new Fuji Polaroid camera film comes with different colourful design and some with cute cartoon characters. Not only that, instant print-out with colour not the vintage black and white.

Other than the cameras, it is true that you can find numerous gadgets that are at very affordable price. Everyday, i will spend at least 5 ~ 10 minutes going thru the deals that Qoo10 send out in their newsletter. SuperbMothers’ DIY Mini Garden

Life is really an interesting phenomena. I still vividly remembers the excitement when i saw leaves grow out of my green bean for my primary school science experiment. The same excitement came back when i saw my mini diy garden grows.

The neighbourhood beside us becomes a dengue hot spot before the hazy season started. We were monitoring the national numbers daily and was quite worried and "troubled" by the increase mosquitoes bites every nite. We started buying anti mosquitoes strips, candles and do the daily 5 steps check.

We feels that our precaution measures are quite OK, but news of friends who we think they are quite healthy around us got dengue, prompt us to look for some long term measures as the pharmacy selves anti mosquitoes are depleting at an alarm rate especially after the 2 dengue victims died. (they both live within 5km radius near our place)

Then, during a facebook chat with my cousin, she shared that her girls have just returned from a school field trip from a farm. During the trips, the girls learned that certain plants will make the mosquitoes "u-turn". I got excited and start researched on those plants and found that some of them are active ingredient in the natural anti mosquitoes spray we bought.

My husband's friend works in a vegetable farm and i recalled during one of my visit to the farm, i saw them selling some herbs plants. I got my husband to check of they have those plants, but was told it was all sold. When i felt despaired, my husband passed me four paper packages. I almost thought treat them as rubbish and discarded them away. My husband fanatically stop me (very drama, haha). He pointed at the ink stamped words on the package then realised those are seeds of the plants i am looking for, his friends sold him the seeds. Before we could plant them, haze is back and mosquitoes problem seem to clear away.

It is until end of july during the off day, i started to plant them. At first, i was a bit lost how to plant them. My husband take out some cotton gauzes. I recalled a sitcom by Mr. Bean, he took stem and leaf out from his kitchen windows for "snack", so convenient, right? It’s like having fresh herbs at your disposal.

The next thing, i saw that we have some plastic bottles for recycle. I thought i can use the top part of the bottles as they have a cap and i drain away excess water easily. I tried to germinate the seeds (consisting of parsley, sweet basil, Thai basil, dill and lemon balm) by spreading them on wet cotton gauze in their individual bottle. Label the name on the bottle and hang them using the plant chain. Hook against our kitchen window grill area where the amount of sunlight is just right. I also used a secret weapon: shower them with rice water.

Now the plants are blooming. My dear husband, if you are reading this, i know you are a little bit busy recently, but it is time that you should be getting the long flower pot you said you will buy. The plants are feeling crowded already!

The whole process is really enjoyable and it bring back fond memories of childhood. I can't wait to see them grow like the fortune plant along my corridor. I am always happy to see the shoot grow out of the it.

If you have kids, it think mini diy garden and exciting project you can teach your kids. Educational, train them patience and also foster bonding. Also you can use the herbs for spice up your cooking and keeping the mozzies out.

Where can you get the seeds. I think major supermarket, some local florist and nursery may have the seeds. My husband gets the seeds from Oh’s Farm, which is at located 14 Bah Soon Pah road beside Khatib Camp. Not very accessible if you do not drive. You can also grabs some fresh vegetables if you get there. Probably your children has been there on school trip too, there is a mini butterfly lodge there where i saw many school children went there during school holidays.

Modern TingKat

Good quality hawker food is rare find this day as most of the good hawkers are retiring. The hazy weather make me feel not like going out. Or simply the food is getting too expensive. Whatever the reasons, i find this modern tingkat a good reasons for me to bring food to work...

I remember my parents used tingkat to bring food to their workplace. A metal container with 3 tiers, when remove by tier, all tiers contained many different foods. Surprise! Anyway, I find tingkat like trans-former. TingKat which means tiers and also known as tiffin carriers. TingKat is part and parcel of the Peranakan household items. TingKat containers designed with colorful pastel hues and floral motifs and were popularized in Penang, Malacca and Singapore during the British colonization.

Food is usually placed into these containers as a mode of distribution to homes of relatives or neighbors for sharing. Apart from that, it was the Babas who dominate the use of the tingkat as delicious Peranakan dishes were filled into the containers and dispatched to their workplace for lunch. Yummy!

I liked the concept of TingKat. Nowadays, it is a rare sight to see men bringing in TingKat filled with sumptuous lunch to work these days, not to mention those colorful ones! To me, this is a practice which has long been abandoned and I would like to cherish it in my own way- a modern inspiration.

I stumbled across the Lunch Box by Kitchenarts (K-Art) online and simply fall in love with it's vibrant colour and simplicity look. I bought it at $16.80 with courier delivery. It's resemble the bento from Japan. Well, we always have some delicious foods left over. Now i can packed those food to enjoy at work. Save money and time. Can rest a bit more. Do note, the soup base should be on the top where food without gravy is best put at bottom as the silicon sealing is on the top cover.

Aedes Mosquito Breeding On Rise & Haze S'pore

After a week of hazy sky, we finally have 1.5 days of sunshine break due to a change in the wind direction, but now our neighbor, Malaysia, is badly hit. Hopefully, the seeding of the rain works, else the changing of the wind direction, we will be suffered again. These events unfolds really tell us the environment is very fatigue and we can't take things for granted. We ordered plenty of N95 mask, standard and those "breathable" type (more suitable for those with breathing difficulties) which will arrived this week. 1.	Change water in vases and bowls on alternate days
2.	Remove water from flower pot plates on alternate days
3.	Turn over all water storage containers
4.	Cover bamboo pole holders when not in use
5.	Clear blockages and put BTI insecticide in roof gutters monthly

Prevention is better than cure. I pop our neighbourhood Guardian Pharmacy. Seriously, their mosquito repellent shelf just left a few patches, spray and candle. They informed that for the past week, the items on shelf went off like hot cakes. I clear all the 5 patches and candle. Total spent $15. My two cents view on candle, the aroma after I lit up candle is rather unnoticeable and insects still flying around but not close to the candle ... :(

I search online and found similar patches can be purchased over at Qoo10 Sg. Indeed, I made some purchases at Qoo10 Sg, spending less than $200 with mosquitoes lamp, trap, patches and bracelets.

So far, I received my patches and bracelets. I wore 2 patches and orange bracelet out to Ang Mo Kio area during evening. I smell like herb repellent, as a small girl was telling her friend that she smell plant nearby.... :p
